Milestones


Established in 1987, in direct response to requests from MasterCard member financial institutions, the RPPS network helped drive dramatic growth and positioned MasterCard RPPS as an industry leader. We maintain leadership through our commitment to open standards, our pioneering achievements, and our ongoing service enhancements that maximize the value of RPPS offerings. Today, MasterCard RPPS offers a comprehensive menu of EBPP services, delivering typically 24-hour electronic routing, posting, and settlement for remote banking payments, bill presentment, balance transfers, walk-in payments, credit counseling payments and electronic debt management proposals (DMPs/EDI).


1987
		MasterCard RPPS begins electronic payment processing for remote banking payments.

1993
		MasterCard RPPS becomes the first and only electronic payment processor for the credit counseling industry.

1998
		Electronic DMPs/EDI are processed through the MasterCard RPPS system - another industry first.

2000
		MasterCard RPPS offers fully automated full budget disclosures.
		MasterCard RPPS inaugurates electronic bill presentment service.
		Payment service expands globally with the introduction of intracurrency settlement capability.

2001
		The first live bills are presented through the MasterCard RPPS switch.
		Breakthrough MasterCard RPPS solution enables OFX/IFX payments to be sent through the RPPS system, allowing multiple payment instructions to be delivered via a single payment transaction.

2002
		New outbound file formats, including ACH-CIE, EDI820, and XML are introduced to accommodate remote banking customers.
		MasterCard RPPS convenes the Credit Counseling Advisory Group, first of its kind in the industry.
		MasterCard RPPS introduces reversal enhancements to promote wide use of electronic reversals. Debit caps now enforceable at biller level.
		MasterCard RPPS fully automates payment inquiries.
		Automated biller/creditor directory download enhancement simplifies biller updates by automatically sending biller files daily.

2003
		MasterCard RPPS redesigns website to reflect new look, easier navigation, and more targeted content.

2004
		MasterCard RPPS completes comprehensive upgrade of Online Biller/Creditor Directory.
		MasterCard RPPS launches value loading service for prepaid cards.
