From a Customer's Perspective
Ed McLaughlin Allow me to open my first editorial as the new leader of MasterCard RPPS by applauding my predecessor, Cathleen Conforti. Clearly, the position of leadership achieved by this organization owes much to her vision and energy. Tapped to oversee the MasterCard PaypassTM program, she will, I'm sure, direct that exciting initiative to even greater success. We all wish her the best. To introduce myself, let me just say that as a former MasterCard RPPS customer, I believe I bring a highly relevant perspective to my new role. As someone who has experienced your needs, concerns, and expectations first-hand, I will work to deepen the customer-centric approach established during Cathleen's tenure. Looking ahead, I want MasterCard RPPS to be the easiest electronic payments network for you to do business with—and the one that best serves your business.

We've already gotten off to a great start on those objectives. A valuable utility for helping you achieve your business goals, MasterCard RPPS offers a proposition unique in the industry: a single, secure, and affordable connection to virtually every originator across the country and the vast majority of billers accepting electronic payments today.

In addition, MasterCard RPPS offers a secure settlement process, and our corporate governance and compliance structure provides robust safeguards that support your compliance with legal obligations. Our enhanced communication and settlement options expand your access to this trusted environment.

We also bring a passionate commitment to working with our customers, to delivering the resources you need to move your businesses forward. While we work hard to keep the MasterCard RPPS network humming quietly and accurately along, we will also be listening closely to you so that we can deliver new tools and services that enhance system functionality and your profitability.

For example, our data management initiative (see related article) will enhance the already exceptional content housed in our Online Biller/Creditor Directory. A unique resource, the directory helps to maximize your electronic payments volume and to ensure the transmission of clean, actionable transaction files. The data initiative—along with our aggressive outreach to bring more billers online—will help expand the percentage of transactions that can be delivered electronically.

To serve you better, this summer we are introducing the new Automated Payment Research Tool, a suite of online capabilities that will give you dramatically improved access to your transaction data (see related article). Incorporating a dynamic search function, a versatile export feature, and automated transaction returns, this tool provides highly flexible payment research functionality, simplifying and accelerating issue resolution.

We are also working closely with both originators and billers to boost payment velocity. Additional payment cycles and our expedited payments services, which will deliver same-day payments later this year, all help accelerate payment posting.

To help you better understand your customers and marketplace trends, MasterCard RPPS regularly shares the results of our tailored independent research. To help you reach those customers, we offer turnkey, cost-effective consumer marketing programs (see related article). As part of the wider MasterCard family, we also provide access to exclusive services, such as the Commerce Intelligence practice within MasterCard Advisors (see related article) , which can deliver illuminating insights on customer behavior.

In addition, our new education programs (see related article) are designed to help new and existing customers derive maximum value from the network.
