INDUSTRY INSIGHTS Q and A With Aaron McPherson		NEWS REPORT Online Biller/Creditor Directory Enhancements Expand Edit Functionality Directory Upgrades Yield Improved Usability and Flexibility Initiated at the 2003 Member Symposium, the comprehensive upgrade of the MasterCard RPPS Online Biller/Creditor Directory is nearing completion, with delivery of the second phase, edit screen enhancements, scheduled for the fourth quarter. “These upgrades provide functionality requested by our customers, and they incorporate information needed to increase the number of payments sent electronically,” says Sherry Stricklin, MasterCard RPPS. The first phase of the enhancements, which went live in February, revamped the view functionality. Improvements included greater data detail, a visual reorganization that improved access to biller information, and customizable properties for enhanced usability. In addition, the search function was expanded and accelerated. “The first round of enhancements also enabled BSPs to view information about their billers just as it appears on the directory—a very convenient tool for verifying that biller information is posted correctly,” Stricklin adds. Built-in conveniences The new edit functionality will deliver additional data and even more flexibility. “BSPs were previously limited to eight AKAs [also-known-as names] and 20 remittance addresses per biller,” Stricklin notes. “Now, the number of AKAs, addresses, and contacts per biller will be unlimited. Removing the previous limitations will enable users to more readily identify all AKAs, remittance addresses, and contacts associated with a biller.” BSPs will find that biller setup is easier and more convenient. “They'll be able to create and reserve a biller ID on the online directory in advance, so they can complete their internal programming knowing they have a permanent ID,” says Stricklin. “They'll also be able to enter partial information for a biller and save it, without submitting it, for completion later. This is especially handy for billers with a large number of masks, remittance addresses, or contacts.” Robust, flexible, extendable The redesign will present users with an online directory that is much more user-friendly. To help our customers get acclimated, MasterCard RPPS is preparing a comprehensive training program. “As users familiarize themselves with the new directory, they'll discover it has a host of advantages that can be summed up in three words: robust, flexible, and extendable,” says Patrick Leathrum, MasterCard RPPS Development. “We've built in robust performance, greatly improving speed, reliability, and accuracy,” he explains. “The system's flexibility enables users to customize view screens to their own preferences.
