News Search Help
- News Searches
-
To search, just type in a few descriptive words and press the 'enter' key (or click on the
"GO" button) for a list of relevant news articles. The search will find any articles that
contain any of the search terms.
- Choosing Keywords
-
For best results, it's important to choose your keywords carefully. Keep these tips in
mind:
- Try the obvious first. If you're looking for information on MasterCard, enter
"MasterCard" rather than "charge cards".
- Use words likely to appear in the news article with the information you want.
"debit cards" will get better results than "Cards to be used instead of checks".
- Make keywords as specific as possible.
- Automatic "or" Queries
-
By default, News Search only returns pages that include one of your search terms. There
is no need to include any logical operators such as "OR" or "AND" between terms as they
will be ignored.
- Automatic Exclusion of Common Words
-
The News Search ignores common words and characters such as "where" and
"how", as well as certain single digits and single letters, because they tend to slow
down the search without improving the results.
- Capitalization
-
News center searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you
type them, will be interpreted as upper case. For example, searches for "payment
systems", "Payment Systems", and "pAyMeNt SyStEmS" will all return the same
results.
- Word Variations
-
News Search uses stemming or wildcard searches to improve search results. In other
words, the search terms "paym" or "payment" will return news articles that contain "payments".
